Everyone likes to be organized, but many people forget or don’t bother to organize their marketing initiatives.
The more organized you are, the higher chance of success that you will have around your marketing initiatives. I recommend that every business, no matter how small or large, create two calendars: a marketing calendar and a social media content calendar.
The marketing calendar will be a broad overview of your marketing plans for the year. Initially, you don’t need to get super specific when creating the calendar. A great way to start this off is coming up with themes for the year, broken down by quarter and month. This way, you can begin brainstorming and coming up with content ideas that fall into those themes.
The social media content calendar will be much more specific.
Your social media content calendar will typically list the dates and times at which you will publish types of content on each channel (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest…).
The calendar will include both your day-to-day posting and content for and paid social media campaigns. One massive advantage of having a social media content calendar is that you’ll make sure that your posts are spaced out appropriately and published at the optimal times.
Another decision that will have to be made is what the purpose of your social media postings will be. We want to make sure that your social media efforts are supporting your business goals.
An example of this would be:
- 45% of content will drive traffic back to your website
- 25% of content will support lead-generation goals (newsletter signups, ebook downloads, subscriptions, etc.)
- 20% of content will be curated from other sources
- 10% of content will be about your company culture and team
MJP Content Labs can help you will all of this. We can help you organize all of your marketing ideas and help build out a schedule for you. We will also analyze past social media data to determine what type of content works best on what platforms, what are the ideal times to post, and what mix of content is perfect for your brand.
